Definition
The practice of claiming to predict the future or reveal character by examining the lines, shape, and other features of a person's hand.
Etymology
From Greek 'cheir' (hand) + 'manteia' (divination). This practice dates back to ancient China, India, and Persia, becoming formalized in Europe during the Middle Ages.
Kelly Says
Chiromancy influenced real science: palmists correctly observed that hand characteristics vary by health, age, and genetics—they just drew wrong conclusions about what it all meant.
