Definition
A tool, die, or specialized knife designed or adapted to cut or indent the choil (notch) in a blade during knife manufacturing.
Etymology
From 'choil' plus the agent noun suffix '-er' (Old English). A technical term in the cutlery and blade-making industry.
Kelly Says
A choiler is one of those specialized tools that barely anyone has heard of but that skilled craftspeople swear by—each master knifesmith developed their own choiler design, making it a signature of their work.
