Christians

/ˈkrɪstʃənz/ noun

Definition

Followers of Christianity who believe in Jesus Christ as their savior and adhere to Christian teachings and practices.

Etymology

From Latin 'Christianus' meaning 'follower of Christ', derived from Greek 'Christos' meaning 'anointed one'. The term was first used in Antioch around 44 CE to describe the early followers of Jesus.

Kelly Says

The word 'Christian' was initially used as a somewhat derogatory term by outsiders to describe this new religious movement, but the followers embraced it as their identity. Interestingly, early Christians were sometimes called 'atheists' by Romans because they refused to worship the traditional Roman gods.
