Definition
A member of an indigenous people from far eastern Siberia, or their language.
Etymology
From Russian Чукчи (Chukchi), derived from the Chukchi word meaning 'rich in reindeer.' The people traditionally lived as reindeer herders in one of the world's harshest climates.
Kelly Says
The Chukchi people live where the Bering Strait is so narrow that on clear days they can reportedly see Alaska—they're one of the few indigenous groups whose homelands span two continents through oceanic proximity!
