Definition
Plural of cineol; fragrant compounds found in essential oils, especially eucalyptus oil, used in medicine and cosmetics.
Etymology
From cineol + -s (plural). Cineol itself was named in German chemistry around the 19th century from an unknown root, possibly relating to cinema or motion because of its volatile nature.
Kelly Says
Cineols are among nature's most powerful antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory compounds—indigenous peoples used eucalyptus leaves for thousands of years before chemists isolated and named the cineols responsible.
