Coadsorbent

/koʊˈædsɔrbənt/ noun

Definition

A substance that adsorbs together with another substance; a co-adsorbent material used in chemistry.

Etymology

From co- + adsorbent (from Latin ad- 'to' + sorbere 'to soak'). Adsorption is when molecules stick to a surface. When two substances adsorb simultaneously on the same surface, they're coadsorbents.

Kelly Says

In water filtration and air purification, different coadsorbents work together—activated carbon and zeolite might both grab pollutants from water, each handling different molecular sizes or types, making the system more effective.
