Colophon

/ˈkɒləfɒn/ noun

Definition

A publisher's emblem or inscription at the end of a book, detailing the printer, typeface, and production details; the finishing touch.

Etymology

From Greek 'kolophon' (summit/finishing touch), from the city of Colophon in ancient Ionia. The horsemen of Colophon were so decisive in battle that 'adding the colophon' meant delivering the final blow.

Kelly Says

The secret page at the BACK of a book that tells you what font was used! Named after a Greek city whose cavalry always delivered the FINISHING BLOW in battle! Every book's colophon is its final flourish! 📚⚔️
