Comicography

/ˌkɒmɪˈkɑɡrəfi/ noun

Definition

The study, description, or history of comic works, comic artists, or comedy as a subject.

Etymology

From 'comic' (Greek 'komikos') plus '-ography' (Greek 'graphia,' meaning 'writing' or 'description'). Similar to how 'biography' is the writing of life stories, this is the writing/study of comedy.

Kelly Says

Comicography is an actual academic field now—scholars publish serious research on comic traditions, graphic novels, and comedy history. It's funny that we needed to make a fancy Greek-derived word to legitimize the study of things meant to make us laugh!
