Commaing

/ˈkɒmeɪɪŋ/ verb

Definition

The act of inserting commas into text, or dividing written material using commas.

Etymology

Modern English formation: comma (noun) + -ing (present participle marker). A technical term used in writing, editing, and grammar instruction.

Kelly Says

Different languages and time periods have wildly different comma rules—French uses them differently than English, and Old English manuscripts used almost none. Comma overuse ('comma splice') is one of the most common grammar mistakes because people subconsciously put commas where they'd naturally pause when speaking.
