Definition
In anatomy, a connection or junction between parts, especially nerve fibers connecting the two halves of the brain or spinal cord.
Etymology
From Latin commissura 'a joining together,' from commissus 'joined together.' Used in anatomy since medieval times.
Kelly Says
Your two brain hemispheres are separate, and commissures like the corpus callosum are the only connections between them—damage to these bridges can create bizarre situations where your two hemispheres literally disagree.
