Definition
The act or practice of complimenting someone; the giving of compliments or flattery.
Etymology
From compliment plus the noun-forming suffix -ation (from Latin -atio). This transforms the verb 'to compliment' into a noun describing the action or practice itself.
Kelly Says
Complimentation creates a formal noun from the verb compliment, but it's stiff and rare—we almost always just say 'compliments' or 'complimenting' instead. It shows how not every grammatically possible word feels natural, and speakers trust their intuition about what belongs in the language.
