Concentric

/kənˈsɛntrɪk/ adjective

Definition

Having a common center, like circles or rings of different sizes drawn one inside another.

Etymology

From Medieval Latin concentricus, combining con- (together) and centrum (center). It entered English in the 16th century as a geometric term describing circles with the same midpoint.

Kelly Says

Tree rings are the perfect example of concentric circles—each year adds a new ring at the center, creating Nature's own target board that scientists can read like a timeline of rainfall and sunshine.
