Definition
Plural of concourse; large open spaces where people gather, such as in airports or train stations, or a gathering of people itself.
Etymology
From Latin 'concursus' (a running together), derived from 'con-' and 'currere' (to run). The term evolved in English to mean both the physical space and the act of gathering.
Kelly Says
Grand Central Terminal's main floor is a perfect 'concourse'—thousands of people literally 'run together' from different directions, creating that iconic controlled chaos that amazed early 20th-century travelers.
