Condemnation

/ˌkɒndɛmˈneɪʃən/ noun

Definition

Condemnation is strong disapproval of someone or something, often expressed in public or official statements. It can also mean a legal declaration that something is unfit for use or that someone is guilty and deserves punishment.

Etymology

From Latin 'condemnātiō', from 'condemnāre' ('to sentence, to blame strongly'), combining 'com-' and 'damnāre' ('to harm, to find guilty'). The word has long carried both moral and legal weight.

Kelly Says

Condemnation doesn’t just say 'this is wrong'; it says 'this deserves serious blame or punishment'. That’s why official condemnations by governments or courts carry a heavy, almost irreversible feeling.
