Definition
A congress or assembly, particularly used in Spanish-speaking countries for legislative bodies.
Etymology
Spanish form of 'congress,' derived from Latin congressus (meeting, battle). It entered Spanish through the same Latin root that gave English 'congress,' but retained the Spanish spelling and pronunciation.
Kelly Says
In Latin America, 'Congreso' titles vary wildly—some countries call their parliaments 'Congreso Nacional,' others 'Congreso de la República,' showing how the same word adapted across different political systems.
