Definition
A state or condition of connivance; secret cooperation or tacit approval of something improper.
Etymology
An alternate form of 'connivance,' using the suffix '-cy' instead of '-ance.' Both derive from Latin 'conniventia' and were used interchangeably in older English.
Kelly Says
'-ancy' and '-ance' suffixes both exist in English, but '-ancy' became less popular over time—connivancy is basically a historical variant that lost the spelling competition, like 'connexion' vs. 'connection.'
