Consciousness

/ˈkɒn.ʃəs.nəs/ noun

Definition

The state of being awake and aware of yourself, your thoughts, and what is happening around you.

Etymology

From Latin *conscientia* and related to *conscius* "knowing, aware" (*con-* "with" + *scire* "to know"). It developed into the idea of self-awareness in philosophy and psychology.

Kelly Says

Consciousness is the strange fact that there is a "you" having experiences at all. Science can describe brain activity in detail, but how that turns into the feeling of being you is still one of the biggest open mysteries.
