Constructionism

/kənˈstrʌkʃənɪzəm/ noun

Definition

The philosophical or educational belief that people actively build their own understanding and knowledge through experience and interaction, rather than passively receiving it.

Etymology

From construction + -ism (doctrine or system). Popularized in the 1980s by Seymour Papert in educational psychology, derived from Piaget's constructivism with emphasis on active building through projects.

Kelly Says

Constructionism explains why making something (building a robot, coding a program, designing a game) teaches you more than just reading about it—your brain learns by actively constructing meaning, not downloading it.
