Consulate

/ˈkɑnsəlɪt/ noun

Definition

The office or residence of a consul; the building where consular services are provided. A consul represents their country's interests in a foreign city.

Etymology

From Latin 'consulatus' meaning 'office of consul,' from 'consul' (magistrate). In ancient Rome, consuls were the highest elected officials; modern consuls handle diplomatic and commercial affairs abroad.

Kelly Says

Think 'consul-ATE' like 'gradu-ATE' - it's where the consul-ate (consul-graduated person) works! Consulates are like mini-embassies in major cities, helping citizens abroad.
