Definition
Able to be touched or capable of making contact; relating to or involving the sense of touch.
Etymology
From Latin 'contactus' (touched) plus '-ile' (capable of being). A technical term formed to describe things that interact through physical contact or can be perceived by touch.
Kelly Says
In sensory neuroscience, 'contactile' properties of surfaces help us understand how our brain processes the world through touch—texture, temperature, and pressure all travel through contactile sensation!
