Definition
Involving or expressing contradiction; serving to contradict or oppose something.
Etymology
From 'contradict' (Latin 'contradicere') plus the adjective suffix '-ive' (having the quality or character of), an alternative form to 'contradictory'.
Kelly Says
While 'contradictory' is more common today, 'contradictive' appears in older texts—both mean the same thing, but 'contradictive' emphasizes the active process of contradicting rather than the state of being contradicted.
