Convulsion

/kənˈvʌlʃən/ noun

Definition

Violent, involuntary muscle contractions that cause jerking movements of the body or limbs. Convulsions are often a visible manifestation of certain types of seizures.

Etymology

From Latin 'convulsio' meaning 'a pulling together' or 'violent shaking', derived from 'convellere' (to pull violently). The term has been used medically since the 14th century.

Kelly Says

Convulsions are like your body's emergency broadcast system gone haywire! While they look terrifying, they're actually your muscles responding to confused electrical signals from the brain - it's as if your nervous system is shouting conflicting commands to every muscle at once.
