Definition
Relating to or involving the mutual relationship or connection between things, especially in research or statistics.
Etymology
From correlation (noun) plus the suffix -al (relating to), itself derived from Latin correlatus. The scientific meaning solidified in the 19th and 20th centuries as statistics became formalized.
Kelly Says
Correlational studies are the bread and butter of social science research, but they're also the sneakiest way to accidentally prove something that isn't actually true—which is why everyone should learn statistics!
