Corslet

/ˈkɔrslɪt/ noun

Definition

A piece of body armor consisting of a breastplate and backplate fastened together, worn by soldiers or knights.

Etymology

From Old French corselet, diminutive of corse (body armor), from Italian corsa. The diminutive -let indicates it's a smaller or lighter version of a full suit of armor.

Kelly Says

Corslets were the practical middle ground between full plate armor (heavy and expensive) and leather armor (weak protection)—most common soldiers wore corslets because they balanced protection and mobility.
