Croupal

/ˈkruːpəl/ adjective

Definition

Relating to or affecting the croup (the rump or hindquarters of a horse, or relating to the respiratory condition croup).

Etymology

From croupe (the horse's rump) + -al (adjective suffix). May also relate to croup (the respiratory disease), from possibly Germanic 'kruppeln' (to bend).

Kelly Says

The word 'croup' has two completely different meanings—horse anatomy and a scary childhood illness—but 'croupal' usually refers to the disease, making it an accidentally ambiguous medical term!
