Definition
Extreme greed for wealth or possessions; an intense desire to acquire material things. Avarice or covetousness taken to an excessive degree.
Etymology
From Latin 'cupiditas' meaning desire, lust, from 'cupidus' (desirous), related to 'cupere' (to desire). The word entered English in the 14th century through Old French.
Kelly Says
Don't think of Cupid and love - think of Cupid's GREED for arrows! Cupidity is when desire (like Cupid's arrows) becomes excessive greed for money and possessions.
