Definition
The study and systematic classification of curiosities, rare objects, and unusual phenomena; the science of collecting and understanding rare items.
Etymology
Formed from 'curio' with the Greek suffix '-logy' (study of). Emerged as a formal term during the 18th-19th centuries as curiosity cabinets became institutionalized.
Kelly Says
Curiology is basically the academic legitimization of asking 'why is this thing so weird?'—it turned Renaissance obsession into Enlightenment science.
