Cynthian

/sɪnˈθɪən/ adjective

Definition

Relating to or coming from Mount Cynthus on the Greek island of Delos, or associated with the goddess Diana (also called Cynthia).

Etymology

From Greek 'Kynthos,' the mountain on Delos where Apollo and Diana were said to have been born. The term became a poetic epithet for Diana and eventually an adjective describing things connected to that mythological tradition.

Kelly Says

The word Cynthia itself meant 'from Mount Cynthus' and became so associated with the moon goddess Diana that even modern names like Cynthia still carry this ancient moonlit origin—most people never realize they're named after a Greek mountain!
