Dashboard

/ˈdæʃbɔːrd/ noun

Definition

The panel in front of the driver of a vehicle that shows controls and instruments; also, a main screen in software that shows key information at a glance.

Etymology

Originally from carriage days: a 'dash-board' was a board at the front that stopped mud dashed up by horses' hooves. The term was later reused for automobiles and then for digital displays.

Kelly Says

Your car or app dashboard started as a literal mud shield. Now it’s a shield against confusion—catching all the messy details and turning them into clear gauges and charts.
