An instrument used to measure the density or thickness of a substance.
From Greek 'dasys' (thick, dense) + '-meter' (measuring instrument suffix). The word combines the concept of density with the idea of measurement.
While dasymeter isn't commonly used anymore, it's a great example of how scientists used to create super-specific measuring tools—today we'd probably just use one general density meter!
