Definition
A rare iron oxide or related mineral found in meteorites or metamorphic rocks, named after French scientist Gabriel-Auguste Daubée.
Etymology
From Daubée (French mineralogist/chemist) plus mineral suffix '-ite'. Part of the scientific naming tradition where minerals are named after scientists who discovered or first described them.
Kelly Says
If you're a famous enough scientist in the 1800s, you could have a space rock mineral named after you—it's the ultimate immortality for a mineralogist!
