Definition
The process of removing color or the state of having been stripped of color (American English spelling).
Etymology
From decolorize + -ation (from Latin -atio). The -ation suffix creates abstract nouns describing processes or states, ultimately from Latin nominal morphology that English adopted extensively.
Kelly Says
Words ending in '-ation' are often Latinate and sound more formal—compare 'decolorization' (fancy chemistry term) with 'color removal' (plain English)—learning to recognize Latin roots helps you decode thousands of technical vocabulary words!
