Definition
Relating to or involving deduction; having the nature of subtracting or leading away; a rare or archaic term.
Etymology
From 'deduct' plus the suffix '-ory' (meaning 'relating to' or 'having the nature of'). This is an uncommon formation in modern English; '-ory' endings are more typically seen in words like 'sensory' or 'factory,' but 'deductory' appears occasionally in older texts.
Kelly Says
The '-ory' suffix is much rarer in financial and logical contexts than '-ive' or '-ible,' making 'deductory' sound almost Shakespearean compared to the standard 'deductive.'
