Defortify

/diːˈfɔːrtɪfaɪ/ verb

Definition

To weaken, diminish, or remove fortifications from a place; to make something less strong or defended.

Etymology

From de- + fortify. Fortify comes from Latin fortis (strong). The de- prefix reverses the action of fortification.

Kelly Says

After wars ended, countries would defortify cities by removing castle walls and military structures—defortifying allowed cities to expand and become peaceful commercial centers instead of military strongholds.
