Demothball

/ˌdiːˈmɒθbɔːl/ verb

Definition

To take something out of storage or long-term disuse and prepare it for active use again, the opposite of mothballing.

Etymology

From de- (reverse) + mothball (something stored away unused). To mothball something comes from literally placing mothballs in storage with clothing; demothball reverses this action.

Kelly Says

Companies 'demothball' factories during economic booms by restarting old production lines, and militaries demothball warships from 'the boneyard' when they need to expand fleets—it's cheaper than building new ones.
