Dendron

/ˈdendrən/ noun

Definition

A branching part of a nerve cell (neuron) that receives signals from other neurons, or more generally, any tree-like branching structure.

Etymology

Directly from Greek 'dendron' (tree). In neurobiology, the term was chosen because these nerve extensions branch like tree limbs.

Kelly Says

Your brain's dendrons are so densely branched that a single neuron can receive signals from 5,000 other neurons—creating a more complex network than all the world's computers combined!
