Definition
The process of removing or lifting someone or something out of poverty or an impoverished condition.
Etymology
From 'depauperize' (the reverse of pauperize) with the suffix '-ation.' The prefix 'de-' here means to reverse or undo the state of being poor.
Kelly Says
While 'depauperization' sounds like it should mean making poor, it actually means the opposite—ending poverty—showing how 'de-' as a prefix can be tricky because it can mean both 'remove' and 'reverse'!
