Definition
The quality of being worthy of strong disapproval, regret, or shame; the state of being deplorable.
Etymology
From deplorable (from Latin deplorare, 'to weep over') + -ness (Germanic suffix forming abstract nouns). This is an alternative nominalization to deplorability, using the more common English suffix.
Kelly Says
English gives us two ways to say the same thing: deplorability (Latinate) and deplorableness (Germanic), a pattern that shows how English absorbed both Romance and Germanic vocabulary—picking up backup synonyms from two different language families.
