Definition
The act of paying out money from a fund or treasury.
Etymology
From 'disburse' (Old French 'disbourser') combined with the suffix '-ment', meaning the action or result of disbursing funds.
Kelly Says
This word is rarely used today because 'disbursement' took over the same meaning—but 'depursement' shows how medieval and early modern accountants literally emptied their purses to pay obligations.
