Determination

/dɪˌtɜːrməˈneɪʃən/ noun

Definition

Determination is the quality of being firm and not giving up, even when things are difficult. It can also mean the process of figuring something out exactly, such as a value or a cause.

Etymology

From Latin "determinatio" meaning "a setting of limits" or "decision," from "determinare" (to set boundaries, decide). Over time, the word came to focus on firm decisions and the strength to stick to them.

Kelly Says

Determination started with the idea of drawing a firm boundary—this is it, no more changing. When we say someone has determination, we’re saying their decision has become a mental border they refuse to cross back over.
