Etymology

From Sanskrit धृतराष्ट्र (Dhṛtarāṣṭra), composed of 'dhrita' (held, sustained) and 'rashtra' (kingdom), literally 'holder of the kingdom.' The character appears in the world's longest epic poem, the Mahabharata.
