Definition
Relating to or characterized by dichotomy, a division into two contrasting parts or categories.
Etymology
From dichotomic + -al (adjective suffix), or directly from dichotomy + -al. The root dichotomic comes from Greek dicho- (two) + temnein (to cut).
Kelly Says
Dichotomal thinking—dividing the world into two absolute categories like right/wrong or good/bad—is seductive because it makes understanding simple, but it's also why so much nuance gets lost in debates; reality is rarely that binary.
