Definition
The process of changing or losing color, or causing something to lose its proper color.
Etymology
Present participle of 'discolour,' formed by adding -ing to the verb. The verb itself comes from dis- + colour, implying the action of reversing or altering color.
Kelly Says
This word captures an ongoing process — unlike 'discoloured' which is already done, 'discolouring' shows the staining happening right now, which is why old paintings that are actively fading are said to be 'discolouring.'
