Disinsure

/ˌdɪsɪnˈʃʊr/ verb

Definition

To cancel or terminate an insurance policy; to remove insurance coverage from something.

Etymology

From dis- (remove) + insure (to protect with insurance, from Latin securare 'to make secure'). This is a formal term for what's commonly called canceling coverage.

Kelly Says

Insurance companies 'disinsure' high-risk properties and drivers, which is why people with terrible records can't find coverage—the industry actively removes them from protection. This creates a cruel catch-22 where the people who need insurance most can't get it.
