The action of persuading someone not to do something; the process of discouraging someone from a course of action.
Etymology
From Latin dissuasio (from dissuadere 'to urge away from'). The -ion suffix converts the verb into a noun describing the abstract concept or process itself.
Kelly Says
Latin gave English two ways to say this: 'dissuasion' (formal, from the verb) and 'dissuasiveness' (the quality of being able to dissuade)—lawyers prefer 'dissuasion' while regular people say 'talked me out of it.'
