Definition
In biology, producing or giving birth to two offspring at a time, especially referring to organisms that regularly produce twins.
Etymology
From Greek di- (two) plus tokous, from tokos (birth, offspring). The term was coined in the 19th century to describe reproductive patterns in animals and plants that consistently produce pairs of young.
