Dullnesses

/ˈdʌlnəsɪz/ noun

Definition

Plural of dullness; multiple instances or types of the quality of being dull.

Etymology

Regular plural formation: 'dullness' + '-es'. The '-es' plural marker comes from Old English and is still the standard way to pluralize nouns ending in 's' or 'z' sounds.

Kelly Says

Interestingly, we rarely say 'dullnesses' in everyday speech because dullness is usually uncountable—you don't have 'three dullnesses,' but you might say 'the various dullnesses of different cities.'
