Eccrine

/ˈɛkraɪn/ adjective

Definition

Relating to or produced by eccrine glands, which are sweat glands distributed across the body that secrete watery sweat for temperature regulation.

Etymology

From Greek 'ekkrinein' (to secrete, discharge) from 'ek-' (out) + 'krinein' (to separate). The term was coined in the early 20th century to distinguish these glands from apocrine glands.

Kelly Says

Your eccrine sweat glands are your body's air conditioning system—there are 2-4 million of them covering almost your entire body, and they're so efficient that cooling through sweating is one of humans' greatest evolutionary advantages that let us run long distances.
