Ectomorph

/ˈɛktəmɔːrf/ noun

Definition

A person with a naturally thin, lean body type characterized by long limbs and little muscle or fat.

Etymology

From Greek 'ekto-' (outside) + 'morphe' (form or shape). Coined by psychologist William Sheldon in the 1940s to describe one of three basic body types based on embryonic origin.

Kelly Says

Sheldon thought your body type predicted your personality—turns out that was totally wrong, but the word stuck around and became huge in fitness culture even though it's really just about genetics!
