Definition
Expressed opinions in a way that influences how people think about news or facts, rather than just reporting information neutrally.
Etymology
From 'editorial' (relating to an editor's judgment) plus the suffix '-ize' (meaning to make or do). The verb form emerged in the late 1800s as newspapers became more influential in shaping public opinion.
Kelly Says
Journalists actually worry a lot about this—the line between reporting news and editorializing can be super blurry, which is why some news sources now label opinion pieces separately from news stories so readers know the difference.
